Explanation

The most difficult rule in football. A player is offside if, when the ball is played, he is standing nearer to the goal line than the penultimate player from the opposing team (the goalkeeper counts as a player). A player is not given offside if he receives the ball directly from a goal kick, corner kick or throw-in.
